Connect to Tech

Student Technology Guide  | 2019-2020

Technology is a big part of your life, and that remains the case while you are a student at Northeastern. This publication introduces you to key tech resources, ranging from how to connect your laptop to wi-fi to what apps to download on your mobile devices.

First Things First:

Accounts and Access

Your online account

Your myNortheastern username and password is your gateway to many online university sites, including the myNortheastern portal and your Husky email account. You should have received your username and password when you first claimed your online account.

Your unique ID

Your NUID is a 9-digit number beginning with 00 that is unique to you. You can find this number on the sidebar of your myNortheastern portal. It is used for most academic and financial transactions.

Stay safe online

Northeastern will never ask you to confirm your username and password in an email. Forward any suspicious email that you receive to phishcatcher@northeastern.edu. If you have any reason to believe that your account has been compromised, report it immediately to the IT Service Desk.

Appropriate Use Policy

All faculty are responsible for following the Northeastern University Appropriate Use of Computer and Network Resources Policy. The policy is available at northeastern.edu/aup.

This benefit includes an @northeastern email account and calendar, downloads of the Office suite on up to 5 personal devices, and the online and mobile versions of the Office apps.

How to sign in to Office 365:

Log in using your myNortheastern username and password at mail.husky.neu.edu.

Print Your Documents.

General-Use Printing

Northeastern University students have access to general use printers spread across the institution’s campuses. These printers use a software called “PaperCut.”

To get started, visit papercut.northeastern.edu and sign in to the portal with your myNortheastern credentials.

On this portal, you’ll find information about how to use PaperCut, including how to print from various device types, how to download a PaperCut driver as well as how to uninstall a currently installed driver. The PaperCut print portal also allows you to view print job history, upload documents to print, view print balances, and see the environmental impact of your printer usage.

Watch TV.

Cable TV and Xfinity Stream

Northeastern’s HD broadcast cable service, as well as the Xfinity Stream service, is available in university-owned residence halls. A smart television is recommended for accessing the Stream service, which offers over 200 live streaming TV channels, on-demand shows, and movies. Cable port(s) are also available in residence hall rooms.
